PURPOSE

The purpose of the board shall be to advise the City Commission and Library Director on policy matters pertaining to the Oregon City Public Library.  In addition, the board shall assist in preparation and presentation of the Library's annual operating budget, assist in the development of short and long-term goals for the provision of public library services to the community, represent the interests of library users, foster public knowledge and support of the library's role in the community and promote its use, participate in state or network activities intended for library board members and, such other related duties as requested by the City Commission.  The board was created on July 2, 1980 by Ordinance No. 1965; Amended March 3, 1982 by Ordinance No. 1994; Restructured October 7, 1987 by Ordinance No. 87-1011; Amended May 7, 1997 by Ordinance No. 97-1012. 

MEMBERSHIP

The board shall be comprised of seven members with terms of four years each.  Terms expire on December 31.  Membership on the board shall be comprised as follows: Four members shall be residents of the City; two members shall be residents of that area comprising postal zip codes 97045 and 97004 which are outside the boundary of the City and one member "at large".  The Mayor shall appoint current members with the approval of the City Commission.
