The Community Development department
is responsible for guiding growth and development
in
Oregon City.
The department includes four divisions; planning,
engineering, building and Geographic Information
Systems. The planning function assists the city commission
and community in developing polices and regulations
that guide development. Both planning and engineering
review and approve development applications. The
building division ensures that structures are built
according to building codes through the review of
plans and inspections. GIS provides citywide support
by providing information on the city web site and
in and other graphic displays such as maps.

Building
-- The Building
Division is responsible for plan review and
inspections on commercial, industrial and residential
developments, as well as fire life and safety
plan review.
Planning The
Planning Division is responsible for all long
range and current planning. It is also responsible
for implementation of the Oregon City Comprehensive
Plan. Development in Oregon City requires zoning,
engineering and building approval. Depending
on the type of development, the planning process
ranges from staff approval for non-discretionary
permits to full review by the Planning Commission
and City Commission
Geographic
Information Services (GIS).supplies
mapping services to the public, city planners,
engineers, public works,and other City departments.
GIS creates, maintains, and performs analysis
on spatial datasets. GIS also creates hardcopy
and digital maps and reports.
