How to read the Meter
Water Meter

The Water Meter it's a valuable source of information

When you receive your statement, verify your reading is correct by comparing the statement value to meter value. Locate your meter box  and look for the reading on your statement. The value should be read left to right,  dropping the last 2 digits in most cases.

It’s also a good idea to check your meter periodically for leaks:

  • View the two dials located on the meter face. Sometimes this will help you detect a water leak before it’s even visible to you.  Also, get an idea of an average value for your reading, to compare with your current reading.
  • Check and see for leaks in the meter box itself.
  • Check  for movement on the dials under the meter cover. Look for the black triangle & red sweeping hand.
  • In the event that a leak is found, call our Utility billing customer service at (503) 657-8151.
  • Check for obstructions near the meter that might prevent the City from obtaining an accurate reading.  It is the customers responsibility   ensure the meter is easily accessible and not covered by vegetation or other obstructions.
