Oregon City GIS Department

The GIS (Geographic Information Systems) department is a division of the Community Development Department, and supplies mapping services to the public and all City departments. We provide interactive mapping services, data purchasing, database and website services, and project mapping. We were one of the first cities in the Metro region to obtain LIDAR data to accurately map terrain, and participate in an extensive data sharing cooperative in the Metro region.

Flood Information

The City of Oregon City participates in the FEMA National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which makes flood insurance available to everyone. The City makes continual efforts to reduce flood damage potential, which reduces insurance rates. The program was created by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in an effort to improve public safety, prevent property damage, and protect the natural floodplain environment. Communities that participate in this program agree to manage flood hazard areas by adopting regulatory standards related to flood activity.

In 2008, FEMA awarded Oregon City with a Level 7 insurance rating, due in part to our participation in public outreach, education, and flood mitgation activities.  Well before the 2008 map updates, Oregon City was the recipient of a $682,500 FEMA Pre-disaster mitigation Grant for a seismic retrofit for Mountainview Reservoir.

Fema, Floodplain, and flooding safety information

On June 17, 2008, new FEMA floodplain maps and reports were adopted by the City. These maps replace earlier FEMA maps and data with more accurate flood behavior and elevation data. These maps and data are also available from the FEMA website.

DFirms and FIRMetts - Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps

As of October 1, 2009, FEMA will cease distribution of paper mapping products to the general public. The best way to obtain a current flood information map is to create a FIRMette from the FEMA site at no charge.
