Statement of Significance: Auk Smith was a jack-of-all-trades. He owned and ran a tavern in the teens, called Auk's, on the corner of Hedges and McLoughlin. He married Ruth Hedges, a daughter of William Hedges and granddaughter of Absolom Hedges (founder of Canemah). The house is significant for its age and architecture, and also for its association with Auk Smith and the Hedges family.
