The building is rectangular shaped (nearly square), sitting on the southwest corner of Main and 9th Street, facing east. The exterior sheathing is a scored concrete finish. Windows are contemporary extruded metal, fixed pane with reflective, dark-colored glass. The front (east) entrance is slightly recessed; the wall edges at the entrance are curved toward the doorway. A second entrance on the north elevation near the front of the building has recently been changed to windows rather than a doorway. Small, shallow awnings extend over the windows on the front and both doorways. The corners of the buildings have a slight stepped effect. The parapet wall is topped by simple coping.
Statement of Significance: Construction on the First National Bank building began in the spring of 1946; the bank opened in 1947. The building was designed by the architectural firm of Whitehouse, Church, Newberry and Roehr from Portland. By the time of the 1983 survey, the building had been somewhat altered, primarily with the addition of vertical board slats across the upper portion of the front facade and the addition of the side door. At that time it housed the Oregon City Courier and Community First. It has more recently been remodelled again, and now houses Clackamas County offices. The building is no longer eligible as a contributing resource in a historic district.
