Narrative of Incident:

On July 9, 2004 at 1147pm officers responded to the area of 595 May Street on a report of a suspicious person around a black Jeep Cherokee.  On arrival at the scene, officers heard a loud explosion.  Officers located a 1990 Jeep Cherokee in the parking lot that appeared to have been damaged by the explosion.  The Clackamas County Bomb Squad was called to investigate.  It was determined through an investigation that a pipe bomb had been set off under the Jeep causing damage to the vehicle.  Witnessess in the area reported two teenage male subjects were seen looking into car windows in the parking lot just before the explosion occurred.  It is unknown if these two subjects were involved or not.  This is the second pipe bomb explosion that has occurred in Oregon City.  The first incident occurred on June 12, 2004 in the Dales Auto Wrecking lot located at 1367 Molalla Avenue.  In that incident the pipe bomb was also deliberately placed under a vehicle with the intent to cause damage.

Similarities between the pipe bomb incidents indicate they may be related.

The Oregon City Police Department is offering a reward up to $500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of all suspects involved in the pipe bomb incidents.  Anyone with information regarding the incidents please call Lt. Lisa Nunes (503) 657-4964.  After hours call (503) 655-8211 and ask for the on duty sergeant or supervisor.
