Narrative of Incident:
The Oregon City Police Department has been awarded a grant from the US Department of Homeland Security, Office for Domestic Preparedness, in the amount of $57,500. The grant is specifically designed to enhance security and overall preparedness to prevent, respond to and recover from acts of terrorism.
As submitted the grant was for both the City of Oregon City and the Police Department. The final determination of the grant awarded money to purchase 800 MHz radios for the Public Works Department and communication equipment for Police.
The Police Department will purchase additional 800 MHz radios for the patrol division to increase the number of radios available in the event of a major incident where communication is essential. The Department will also purchase improved mobile data computers for the police vehicles to enhance their communications ability with Clackamas County Communications and surrounding police agencies.
This is the first year that the Oregon City Police Department has received a Homeland Security grant.
