Narrative of Incident:
On July 30, 2004 at 3:48pm an Oregon City Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on a Volkswagen Jetta for failure to signal lane change at I-205 NB at Highway 99E. The Jetta eluded the police officer NB on I-205. The Jetta hit a Semi-Truck and an Explorer on I-205 at the Gladstone Exit. The Jetta was turned around in the crash and took off again SB in the NB lanes of I-205. The Jetta traveled a short distance, stopped and the driver ran from the vehicle across I-205 to High Rocks Park. The suspect jumped into the Clackamas River and swam out to the middle of the river. Officers were on the bank at the Oregon City and Gladstone side of the river and were able to talk the suspect out of the water.
The suspect was treated for minor cuts on scene. He was transported to Clackamas County Jail where he was lodged for the above mentioned charges.
There were no injuries reported from the traffic accident.
