The Community Service Officer performs law enforcement related community services work that does not require the enforcement authority of a sworn police officer. The Community Service Officer (CSO) takes information on crimes or incidents that are of a non-emergency nature. The CSO also provides customer information on laws and basic mediation and counseling referral to families, the homeless, disabled and elderly.
The Oregon City Police Department has two Community Service Officers who work different shifts in order to provide the maximum coverage possible to support our 24 hour patrol operation. The CSO’s assist patrol officers by taking minor offense calls that can be handled over the telephone or at the front lobby of the police department.
A majority of the crime reports that our CSO’s take are Identity Theft and Frauds since most of the time these incidents/scams do not have definitive suspect information that can be followed up on.
