The
mission of the Oregon City Police Reserve Program is to provide support functions
for the police department and the community.
The
Oregon City Police Reserve Program operates currently with a total of fourteen
reserve officers. The staff structure allows for one reserve lieutenant and
three reserve sergeant positions. Reserve Officers are divided into three groups
according to their training and experience, Class I, Class II and Recruits.
Recruit
Officers are chosen from a police testing process involving a written practical,
an oral board and background checks.
Clikc here for information on the Requirements for becoming an Oregon City Police Reserve Officer. Once these procedures are complete,
the chosen recruits attend an inter-agency reserve academy for training, which
is very similar to a regular police academy.
Recruit
Reserve Officers are assigned a regular police officer as a training officer.
Recruit Officers are required to put in sixteen hours of patrol time each month.
The more hours a Recruit Officer puts in the more they will learn and the sooner
they can move out of Recruit status to a higher level.
Oregon
City Reserves have many opportunities for experience in law enforcement. Reserves
may be called upon to assist detectives or patrol officers at any time, which
provides opportunities for valuable learning experiences. Reserves work assignments
that require one-on-one contact with members of the community. These contacts
help the reserve officers build relationship with individual citizens of Oregon
City, and thereby build trust and confidence in the police services provided
by the Oregon City Police Department. Click on this link for information on
current Hiring status for Oregon
City Police Reserve Officers.
