School Resource Officer

The Oregon City Police Department has assigned Officer David Edwins as a full time School Resource Officer (SRO)to the Oregon City High School. Officer Edwins has received special law enforcement training and  maintains a resident office at the High School.

The SRO allows the Oregon City Police Department an opportunity  to have direct interaction with school staff, students, parents and citizens in our community. Our goal is to establish a safe environment for the learning process and eliminate barriers between our youth and police. Public safety and law enforcement are the primary responsibility of the SRO, with an emphasis on prevention.

Officer Edwins will be available on a daily basis to meet with students, parents and staff. The SRO is a resource to both school administration and the student body and works to create a safe learning environment for each student. The SRO patrols school grounds, respond to police calls for service in the area and participates in juvenile enforcement efforts to prevent juvenile delinquency. The SRO provides guideance on ethical issues in the classroom and informal settings, as well as individual counseling and mentoring to students. Additionally, the SRO gives classroom presentations on the criminal justice system and other  topics that help build an understanding of law enforcement's role in the community.

The SRO coordinates OCPD Summer Camp program at Mt. Pleasant Grade School. The SRO teams with high school coulselors to provide summer activities for 4th,5th & 6th graders.
