Due to recent staffing issues the department does not currently have any officers assigned to the traffic unit. When the staffing issues are resolved, the department hopes to reassign officers to the traffic unit. Since Oregon City has one of the highest traffic accident rates in Oregon, traffic enforcement will remain a department priority.

When the traffic unit is adequately staffed it's primary goal is the combining education and enforcement to affect the reduction of accidents and traffic violations. The Traffic Unit also has a portable radar trailer that can be placed in strategic areas so motorists are reminded to drive at a safe speed.
