As the Oregon City Police Chief I have the unique opportunity to work with the finest police officers and non-sworn personnel in the State. These men and women have taken an oath to serve the Oregon City community with professionalism and fully believe in their mission to serve and protect.
The department has highly trained officers and support staff that serve on the Peer Response Team, Major Crime Team, Inter-agency Drug Task Force and K9 Unit. The department also has personnel assigned to the Patrol and Detective Divisions, Computer Analysis and bicycle patrol. Additionally, the Department has a School Resource Officer which is assigned full time to the Oregon City High School and, if future staffing allows, another SRO will be assigned within the School District.
As the community grows the Police Department must keep pace in order to provide an efficient and professional law enforcement service. Plans are already in place to add additional officers to the department to bring it in line with state staffing levels. The current police department is undersized and lacks many of the necessities of a modern law enforcement facility. This will continue to be an issue the Department must confront in the near future.
Despite the problematic issues of staffing and facilities the Oregon City Police Department is committed to building positive relations with citizens, business owners and visitors. I share the pride of the Department in its commitment to customer service. The Department is thankful for the support it receives from the community and I look forward to leading the Department’s future growth so that it can effectively respond to the needs of the Oregon City community.
Sincerely,
Michael K. Conrad
Chief of Police
