NOTICE OF 7TH & RAILROAD INTERSECTION CLOSURE AND DOWNTOWN TRAFFIC REVISION

The downtown construction project is making great progress and ready for the next big step! Nutter Corporation is beginning construction of the raised concrete pedestrian friendly intersection at 7th Street and Railroad Avenue at the base of the Municipal Elevator. The new intersection will look similar to the one recently complete at 10th and Main Street. A temporary closure of the intersection to vehicle traffic will be necessary in order to build the new one.

Nutter Corporation is beginning to excavate the intersection. They will be flagging traffic across the intersection during the day while they are excavating and leaving it open to traffic at night with a gravel surface. When the next 3 day dry weather window occurs, the intersection will be closed and the concrete crews will be ready to set forms and pour the intersection in two separate pours. The concrete will then need a minimum of 4 days to cure before it is reopened to vehicle traffic, so the entire closure period is anticipated to be 7 to 10 days. During this time, pedestrian access to the municipal intersection will be maintained.

While the intersection is closed, traffic along Railroad Avenue from 99E will be detoured to Main Street at 6th Street. Please note that this will reverse the current direction of traffic along 6th Street. Permit parking along Railroad between 6th Street and 7th Street will still be available. Through traffic along 7th Street will also be closed, however, local traffic and access to parking along 7th Street will be available from Main Street. Access to Railroad Avenue from Main Street will be maintained through the alleys and 8th Street.

In addition to the new intersection, traffic revisions along 7th Street, Railroad Avenue, and 6th Street will be completed with the project as follows:
• 7th Street will be converted to 2-way traffic,
• Railroad Avenue between 6th Street and 7th Street will be converted to 2-way traffic,
• One way traffic along 6th Street will be reversed (with one way traffic being allowed from Railroad Avenue toward Main Street).

Striping and sign revisions associated with this new circulation will be completed while the intersection is closed so that it will take effect when the intersection is reopened.

We appreciate your patience during the closures and invite any questions or notice of any special access or delivery needs you have. Please obey parking signs to avoid any fines and traffic control signs for your safety and the safety of others.
