GEORGE AND STELLA RAKEL RESIDENCE c.1911 -- Statement of Significance: George Rakel was a barber in the Oregon City area in 1916. His wife's name was Stella. Rakel was the son of Fred Rakel, who owned a number of properties in the Canemah area. This was the first recorded property of George and Stella, who sold it in 1917 and moved to a new house at 510 1st Avenue. Later, George ran a boat towing logs for the paper mill. This simple house appears older than it is, and for this reason is of some interest. It is also of some significance for its association with George Rakel, son of a long-time Canemah resident. In the Canemah National Register Historic District, the building is classified as a Secondary structure.
