SHANNON/STOKES HOUSE c.1905 -- Statement of Significance: Stokes owned most of the block; his grocery store stood on the corner of what is now 1st Avenue and Miller Street, and he lived next door in the house's twin. The house was probably built by Stokes, since it is a twin of the house next door, in which Stokes lived. Fred Shannon purchased the lot in 1908, and lived in the house until 1916. Shannon was a scaler for Crown-Willamette Paper Company and was born in 1883. His wife's name was Nettie. This house is not a primary property - it is a virtual twin to the one next door and was almost certainly built at the same time. It has been altered.
