[ARCHIVED] Arts Commission Announces Creator Of Next Public Art Piece

Arts Commission 7th street artist

The Oregon City Arts Commission recently announced Jenny Ellsworth, a talented artist and welder from Fairy Forge, as the creator of our next public art piece.

Jenny will collaborate closely with the Arts Commission, McLoughlin Neighborhood Association members and Oregon City residents to design a piece that reflects the heart of this vibrant downtown neighborhood.

Through her sculptures, Jenny lends a voice to the disregarded and celebrates the innate beauty found in repurposed materials. The vision for this piece is to repurpose materials from historic landmarks like the Blue Heron Mill.

The selection process wasn't easy. At the May 16 Arts Commission meeting, commissioners and McLoughlin Neighborhood Association representatives reviewed studio visits with several finalists. They based their decision on important criteria including artistic merit, safety for cars and pedestrians, collaboration, durability, and how well the piece would fit the context of the location.

This exciting opportunity is funded in part by a METRO Enhancement Grant and insurance from a previous public art piece, "Ancient Voices" by Carole Turner, which was unfortunately damaged in a car accident.
