[ARCHIVED] Climate Friendly and Equitable Communities

An apartment complex in Oregon City

The Planning Division, with assistance from consultants Studio Davis have begun the public engagement process to implement the Climate Friendly and Equitable Communities rules mandated by the State of Oregon in January 2023. The main purpose of these rules is to reduce minimum parking space requirements for new development. The rules went into effect on January 1, 2023, and must be adopted locally by all Oregon cities and counties.

Many thanks to Oregon City residents who stepped forward to participate on the CFEC Advisory Group!  In January through March 2025, staff meet with the Citizen Involvement Committee, Library Board, Youth Advisory Commission, and other groups to get input on the requirements.

All of the details, including a virtual Public Open House from January 10-17 are on the website https://www.orcity.org/1553/Climate-Friendly-Equitable-Communities. There will be an in-person Public Open House on January 13 at the Robert Libke Public Safety Building at 1234 Linn Avenue from 6-7 pm.

Public Hearings with the Planning Commission and City Commission to amend the zoning code to implement the new requirements will be announced in March 2025 with the goal of adopting the standards locally by June 30, 2025.
