Oregon City celebrated the unveiling of "Elemental Love," a vibrant public artwork by local welder/artist Jennifer Ellsworth on Saturday, December 21st. The event featured a red ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a reception at City Hall. Speaking at the event were the artist, Mayor Denyse McGriff, and Arts Commission Chair, Tima Carlson.
A significant crowd gathered to witness the unveiling of this bold and contemporary artwork, commissioned by the Oregon City Arts Commission. "Elemental Love" not only beautifies the site but also celebrates the community's deep affection for this historic district.
Funding for the project came from multiple sources, including a Metro Community Enhancement grant awarded to the Arts Commission and an insurance settlement following the destruction of the former piece of art in an automobile accident. The Arts Commission received proposals from around the country and interviewed four finalists before selecting Ms. Ellsworth and Fairy Forge.
“Elemental Love” was a collaborative effort, involving the artist, the Oregon City Arts Commission, the Mayor, who is the Arts Commission liaison to the City Commission, City staff and Commissioners, members of the McLoughlin Neighborhood Association, and the broader Oregon City community. The Oregon City Arts Commission is dedicated to bringing “Art for Every Heart” to Oregon City and is proud to support and showcase works like "Elemental Love."
