Spring is here, and now is the time when many folks begin to work on outdoor projects like new decks, porches, and porch covers. The Planning Division has many resources that can help!
For anyone considering a residential deck or porch higher than 30 inches above grade, or a porch cover, you’ll want to consider the following:
- Am I in an Overlay Zone?
- Flood Management Overlay District?
- Geologic Hazard Overlay?
- Historic District or designated historic structure?
- Natural Resource Overlay District?
- What are my setback requirements?
- Does my property have easements, and where are they?
- Does my deck, porch, or porch cover require a building permit?
- Please contact Building at permits@orcity.org for more information

- See our City Webpage on decks, porches, and porch covers, as well as our Planning Application, for more details.
