[ARCHIVED] Oregon City Celebrates Extra Mile Day By Honoring Three Individuals

Extra Mile Day is a nationwide declaration by cities across the U.S. who are recognizing the impact of special people in their community who are “going the extra mile” in volunteerism and service. This year, Oregon City will Celebrate Extra Mile Day on November 1, 2021. Oregon City is participating with other cities by recognizing three individuals and/or organizations who are making a difference and creating positive change in our community.

As Mayor, I have the pleasure of selecting individuals and/or organizations that have made a positive impact in our community over the last year and continue to support our City by giving their time, talent, and effort. I’m happy to honor them and/or their respective organizations on Extra Mile Day.

Shawn Dachtler

Beginning in 2003, Shawn Dachtler has given many hours of service to our Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC). He has served on this committee for many years and has contributed to the construction of Wesley Lynn Park, Tyrone S. Woods Memorial Park, and many more park improvements. He has represented neighborhoods with little to no voice and worked to emphasis all neighborhoods in Oregon City should have a park nearby to visit. Shawn is moving on to other non-profit work, but his many hours supporting PRAC has not gone un-noticed.

Brandi Johnson / LoveOne

LoveOne is a non-profit serving Oregon City by providing laundry services, showers, meals, personal care resources, and community connections to individuals in need. Brandi Johnson, the Director of LoveOne, organizes volunteers, creates service programs in Oregon City, Milwaukie, and Molalla, and advocates for low income and homeless individuals who need assistance. Love for others is the foundation of LoveOne and Brandi’s efforts carry the organizations mission with great success. We need more individuals in our community to lead with LOVE and we appreciate Brandi’s tireless efforts to help our neighbors.

Jerry Herrmann/ Rivers of Life

Rivers of Life is a non-profit training and education organization for at-risk youth and young adults, that specializes in environmental landscaping and natural resources preservation. Jerry Herrmann leads the work of the Rivers of Life Center in Oregon City and has worked tirelessly to preserve wetlands and natural areas in our community. He has a heart for the youth in our community and spends many hours mentoring them, to set them on a path to a successful career in environmental studies. Jerry has led many projects within Oregon City and continues to support our youth year-after-year.

Oregon City is lucky to have these individuals and organizations volunteering their time and services. They have made a long-lasting positive impact in our community. Please join me in recognizing these individuals and organizations on Extra Mile Day, November 1, 2021, and consider how you can give back and “go the extra mile” in Oregon City!
