Overview
Tyrone S Woods Memorial Park is complete and the park is open.
The dog park is temporarily to remain closed. The grass hydroseed put down in the gated dog park is still not established well enough to allow foot and paw traffic. As soon as the Parks Department is certain of the strength of the established grass we will open the dog park. We are hopeful this will be just a few weeks. We can't wait to see pups enjoying the park!
The 9-acre Tyrone S Woods Memorial Park, located at 14520 Meyers Road, Oregon City, OR will protect and restore natural resources while creating an engaging place for active and passive recreation for users of all ages and abilities. A thorough public engagement process was undertaken to create the master plan for the park which includes site amenities including winding looped pathways, open lawn areas, picnic shelter, benches, a nature playground, pickleball courts, a skate spot, and a fenced off-leash dog park. Approximately 7 acres of the site will be developed as phase I.
About Tyrone Snowden Woods
Senior Chief Petty Officer Tyrone Snowden Woods was a native Oregonian, a 1989 graduate of Oregon City High School, and a state champion wrestler. In 1991, he earned his SEAL trident and served his country for 20 years as a member of SEAL teams 1, 3, and 5, the U.S. Navy Leap Frog team, and as a BUD/S instructor and medic. He retired in 2010, but duty called and he continued to serve as a civilian protective officer for the CIA. On September 11 to 12, 2012, American facilities in Benghazi, Libya, were attacked and Tyrone perished while defending American lives.
This park honors his legacy as a great warrior who made the ultimate sacrifice so others could live. It will be enjoyed by many, including students from nearby Oregon City High School who can read about the heroism of one of their own.
