A native to the Northwest, Clarence Chesterfield Howerton (also known as Major Mite) is famous for his small stature. Clarence spent the majority of his life traveling with Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. His last performance was in 1948 with Cole Pros. Major Mite is also famous for his role in the MGM 1939 film Wizard of Oz. In the slideshow is a picture of him in the film as the third trumpeter in the make-believe Land of Oz.
