Oregon City is already on the way to funding an adequate public safety building to invest in the community’s future. In May 2015, the Oregon City Commission unanimously approved a Community Safety Advancement Fund (CSAF).
As a result, a modest, temporary fee will appear on utility bills of residents and businesses in Oregon City. This fee will generate funding to build the new public safety building. It took effect in January 2016 and expires after 15 years. The utility fee will cost $6.50/month, totaling $78 annually for each Oregon City individual residence or business. Money from the fund is collected and saved in a separate building fund. By law, the money can only be used for the new public safety building.
Other cities have used a fund of this nature for similar projects. The City of Medford has a monthly public safety utility fee of $4.50 to help fund their new public safety facilities. The City of Gresham also implemented a monthly fee of $7.50 to help increase its police force.
