Diverse Books 2020

Welcome! The information on this page was created by Barratt Miller, our Youth Services Librarian, for the Oregon City School District Equity Conference, held on February 7, 2020 at Oregon City High School.

While it was designed to be used by K through 12 educators, this information will also be helpful to anyone who's trying to find diverse books for and about kids and teens.

Presentation

View Presentation (PDF).

In the slideshow, you'll find:

  • Statistics and articles about diversity in the U.S. publishing Industry
  • Recommended books published in 2019, book award lists, websites, and other resources highlighting 11 different identities
  • Information about using the public library, including how to get an educator library card

From the Table of Contents on slide 2, use the blue underlined text to navigate to any slide in the presentation. All other blue underlined texts are links to visit online resources. Book covers are links that show you where to find each book in the library.

Book Lists

Want to skip right to the book lists? We've made easy-to-print PDFs by grade range and by identity (Citizenship Status; Disability; Gender Identity and Sexuality; Income Inequality; Language: Spanish; Race and Ethnicity: American Indian/Asian and Pacific Islander/Black/Latinx; Religion: Jews/Muslims; and Intersectionality).

In all book lists, select blue underlined text to find each book in the library! #ownvoices titles, audiobook editions, graphic novels, Oregon authors/settings, and Spanish language editions are noted in each list.
