FREDRICK RAKEL RESIDENCE c.1901 -- Statement of Significance: Fred Rakel, a native of Hanover, Germany, arrived in the United States in 1876 at the age of 32, and was an employee in the Oregon City Woolen Mills. For many years, he lived at 917 4th Avenue. Sometime around the turn of the century, he built two twin houses on Apperson Street, living in this house until his death in 1909. The twin to this house was demolished sometime after 1925. The house later passed to his daughter, Dora, who was born in Canemah in the late 1870s. The house is significant for its relationship to Frederick Rakel and for its age.
