BARCLAY SCHOOL GYMNASIUM -- Statement of Significance: The Barclay School gymnasium may predate the current Barclay School at 817 12th; however, Sanborn maps indicate that the gymnasium is contemporary with the existing school.
This large structure from the 1920s looks like a typical railroad warehouse, though it is currently located on the grounds of the Barclay School and is used as a gymnasium and ballet studio. The building is rectangular and has a gable on hip roof with deep eaves supported by over dimensional eave brackets. The long sides of the building have four banks of four 12-pane fixed wood windows. The upper half of the exterior is clad with round edge drop siding, with board and batten below. The skirting is shiplap and there are large wooden shingles in the gable.
This property is a locally designated historic site located within the McLoughlin Conservation District. Contact ocplanning@orcity.org for more information.
