Holiday Books
Picture books and nonfiction books about a variety of holidays. We have sections for Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, and Christmas, with all other holidays shelved in a general Holiday section. Holiday books may be checked out for 7 days.

Phonics
Each book in this section focuses on one sound, such as the letter B or words that end in "-at." These are great ways to introduce our youngest readers to basic sounds or provide additional support for kids who are still developing reading skills.

Easy Readers
We offer four levels of just right fiction and nonfiction books for beginning readers. Because each publisher uses a different leveling system, we apply the reading level stickers in-house to ensure consistency. More details about our reading levels can be found here.

Bridging Fiction
Aimed at readers in Grades 2 through 4, Bridging Fiction books are perfect for children who've mastered Level 4 easy readers but aren't quite ready for full-length chapter books. They are usually about 60 to 100 pages long, use large print text, and feature full-page illustrations.

J Fiction
Aimed at readers in Grades 3 through 5, J Fiction books are the perfect next step for children who've mastered Magic Tree House but aren't quite ready for Harry Potter. They're usually about 100-350 pages, use regular print text, and feature no or limited illustrations.

J Nonfiction
Books in our J Nonfiction are arranged by Dewey Decimal number and are appropriate for readers in Grades 2 through 7. If your just-right fiction section is Bridging Fiction, J Fiction, or Young Teen Fiction, the J Nonfiction section will probably be just right for you, too. Not sure where to start? Young Teen Fiction
Aimed at readers in Grades 5 through 7, Young Teen Fiction books are for older elementary and younger middle school kids who are ready to leave "little kid stuff" behind but aren't quite ready to explore the YA section yet. They're usually 350 pages or longer, use regular print text, and feature no or limited illustrations.

J Magazines
Yes, you can check out magazines! We have over a dozen magazines aimed just at children in preschool through elementary school. While the newest issue does have to stay in the library, older issues can be checked out for 14 days. We keep back issues of most magazines for one year.

J Bilingual Books (Spanish-English)
Our bilingual collection includes picture books, easy readers, and nonfiction books written in a mixture of Spanish and English. While some books are mostly in English with a few Spanish words thrown in, the majority of our bilingual books feature full text in both English and Spanish.

J Spanish Books
Our Spanish collection includes picture books, easy readers, bridging fiction, J fiction, Young Adult (YA) fiction, and nonfiction books written in both European and North American Spanish dialects. While we get quite a few popular titles in translation, we also add books originally written in Spanish whenever we can.

J Russian Books
Fun fact: Russian is the third most commonly spoken language in Oregon after English and Spanish! Our Russian collection includes picture books and nonfiction books written in Russian (Cyrillic alphabet). This is one of our newest collections and is still growing.

Although it's located in the Children's Room, this section is geared for adults. In addition to nonfiction books on a variety of topics related to the work of parenting, this section includes picture books to use when introducing or discussing difficult topics with kids.

Also known as the comics or comic book section, graphic novels are one of our most popular collections! We include all-ages comic strips like Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes in this section, as well as fiction and nonfiction novel-length books just right for readers in Grades 2 through 7.
