CAPT. JIM GIST RESIDENCE c.1866 -- Statement of Significance: The origins of this house are obscure: if it is as old as amateur historians of the area claim, there is little left to distinguish it as such on the exterior. The house was a one-story affair in 1900, valued at $20. by 1911, it was 1-1/2 stories and had its present configuration, valued at $100, so radical alterations occurred in the first decade of the century, probably when the Driskell family bought the property and remodeled the smaller, two-room house. The original owner was Jim Gist. People claim Gist was a steamboat captain, however this was undocumented. The house is significant for its age.
