HELEN AND PETER SMITH RESIDENCE c.1918 -- Statement of Significance: Peter Smith was a carpenter in 1916. His wife's name was Helen. This is the last of three properties the Smiths owned in Canemah, and it is likely that Smith built this house himself: it is more elaborate and refined than the other two structures and shows a greater attention to detail. This structure has some of the finest craftsman detailing in Oregon City and is significant for this reason, as well as for its somewhat unusual form for the period in which it was built. In addition, it has importance in relation to its builder and owner, carpenter Peter Smith. In the Canemah NR District, the house is classified as Secondary.
