Based on our data analysis (see next question), we found that comparatively few people visit the Library on weekdays from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Often, we have more staff than patrons in the building during this time.
Additionally, our data analysis showed that the Library is heavily used Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This suggests a strong community demand for morning hours, which are not currently offered on Sundays.
Finally, the data showed that, hour-for-hour, Sundays are the day we experience the highest foot traffic and checkout/return volume.
This change will better align our hours with community usage and demand while also providing a more consistent opening time, with the Library opening at 10:00 AM every day.
What data was analyzed to inform this change?
Our people counters provide insights into visitor patterns, including time of day, day of the week, and overall attendance at the Library. As part of our analysis, we examined data from two full calendar years (2023 and 2024).
Additionally, we analyzed circulation data from our self-check terminals, which process over 90% of our checkout transactions, to understand trends based on time of day and day of the week.
