ETHEL AND JABEZ RAYL HOUSE -- Statement of Significance: Jabez and Ethel Rayl were the original owners of 1112 7th Street. The Rayl's bought the property in 1920, but the house was not constructed until about 1926. Mr. Rayl worked at Crown-Willamette for 34 years, beginning in 1908. Mrs. Rayl lived at the house until her death in 1984. This house is rare in that the original owners occupied the house from its time of construction through the entire historic period.
The house is at 1112 7th is a fine example of a high-end bungalow. It is rectangular in plan with a large side-gabled volume. The front is marked by a large gable dormer and a full-width porch. The porch has a sold rail with tapered truncated posts on brick pedestals. A gabled bay projects from its east side. At the eave, the barge board is supported by brackets. The siding is bevel. Windows are 6/1 wood double-hung. The rear porch is glazed in. The foundation is concrete. The house still retains its kitchen cabinet cooler vents. There is a c.1925 garage off the south corner of the house.
