CAPT. SABASTIAN MILLER RESIDENCE c.1862 -- Statement of Significance: Sebastian Miller, born in 1828 in Ohio, was a prominent citizen of Canemah, who had a lifelong career as a steamboat captain, pilot and engineer. As a young man he began his career as an engineer on steamboats on the Mississippi River. In 1852, he crossed the plains and Rockies to Oregon, where he found work as an engineer on steamboats based at Canemah. He was known for his ability to pilot steamboats over treacherous falls. He married Sarah Power, and they had two children. The house is a good example of the Classic Revival style. Its association with Sebastian Miller, its style, and its age make it a structure of primary significance.
