E.A. GOTTBERG HOUSE -- Statement of Significance: In 1903, the Sheriff sold lots 1-8 to John T. Apperson. Apperson then split up the lots, selling lot 2 to E.A. and Edna Gottberg in 1910 and lot 1 to Anna Howell in 1911. E.A. Gottberg cam from Ohio and died in 1913. Laura Eugenia Meissner acquired lot 2 from the Gottbergs in 1913. Lot 1 was sold by the Howells to Cornelia Lillie in 1911 and then to Mrs. M.E. Miller in 1912. By 1913 lot 1 had been sold to A.A. Price and then to G.A. Cobb. In 1914, C.H. Meissner, a physician, was able to purchase lot 1 giving he and his wife Laura lots 1 and 2. The Meissners retained ownership of both lots for 29 years. In 1943 they sold both lots to Walter and Katherine Koch, who resided there for 21 years. Walter was a manager at Pantorium Cleaners. Clinton and Ann Anderton purchased the properties in 1964. Clinton was a molder at Sawyers.

This large house sits under a side gable roof with a gabled dormer on the east side. A full width porch sits on the east side as well covered by a shallow gable roof. The gables feature open eaves with chamfered knee brackets that penetrate the wide barge boards. The porch gable is supported by tapered square columns set on wood piers. These columns appear in groups of three at the porch corners, while single columns flank the porch entrance. A solid balustrade runs between the piers, clad with the same lap siding as the rest of the house. Two rectangular bays extend out from the north side of the house, both under gable roofs with the same features as the main gable. The windows are typically 1/1 double-hung wood sash with wide surrounds and decorative hood moldings. The dormer has a group of four fifteen-pane casement windows with the same trim as the other windows in the house. A large brick chimney is centered on the south wall of the house.
