1224 Monroe Street

This impressive c.1920 bungalow is sited on a hill above street level with concrete steps leading up to the main entrance porch. It is a rectangular plan with a steeply pitched gable roof and a shed dormer at the upper level supported by decorative brackets under the eaves. A large porch exists at the main entrance and has a curved porch overhang that is supported by brackets with exposed, decorative shaped ends. Truncated columns on large concrete posts flank the front entry. The exterior of the main house is clad in round drop siding. A five-sided bay addition with a fixed picture window is present at the main (west) façade and is capped with a hipped roof and exterior lap siding which matches in width the original round drop-siding of the structure. The windows vary in size and type with 10/1 wood double-hung the most typical. 9/1 wood double-hung windows are present in the dormer and the upper level of the main elevation. The north elevation had 10/1 windows flanked by 6/1 windows and 8/1 windows in some locations. Alterations include an enclosed, screened porch at the rear elevation with a gabled roof supported by compatible brackets at the eaves.

This property is located within the McLoughlin Conservation District but is not a locally designated historic site. Contact ocplanning@orcity.org for more information.
